Rolling Over...

So, on Friday evening Georgia Grace rolled over from her back to her stomach...I basically just thought it was a fluke and that she accidentally did it! Yesterday she was close several times throughout the day as she was playing on her play mat but never quite got over but last night after her bath she was in her cute little robe and I had just put a diaper on her about to lather her with lotion and she ended up face first in the carpet...she had managed to flip over again! We put her to bed last night just like always where she has slept through the night for over a month now (usually til 8 am!)...in her crib swaddled up in the miracle blanket. Well at 5 am Jesse got up because he heard Georgia Grace fussing...not quite crying but fussing. She is never really crying when she wakes up anyway, usually just making noises so he figured something was wrong...well he went in the nursery and there she was...on her stomach, half way un-swaddled...and fussing. He picked her up and then of course I fed her...she had managed to roll over again...but unfortunately she does not know how to roll from her tummy to her back...any suggestions on what to do? I read that most babies learn the other way first (tummy to back) but she doesn't quite know how to do that...do we need to stop swaddling her, what should we do for bed time, can we teach her to roll from tummy to back? Suggestions appreciated!!

  1. We went through the same thing.. If she isn't too attached to the swaddle.. I would go ahead and get rid of it.. We had a time trying to get Laney to sleep without it and it wasn't until around 6 months that we said enough is enough... We did let her just cry it out sometimes, but that is really hard. My pediatrician said to go and turn her over each time. Finally we just stopped swaddling and let her sleep on her stomach.. Good Luck!

  2. I just went through this same thing not too long ago! We ended up getting a Woombie. It allowed for more hand movement, but still a tight swaddle feeling. Then we went to the sleep sack (arms out) and then finally no swaddle at all. And now he is a stomach sleeper! Warner transitioned so much better than I ever thought and he is still sleeping 11 1/2 - 12 hours consistently! In the end you'll look back and wonder why you stressed so much!

  3. Another suggestion is trying one of those position sleeper things. You basically wedge her in so she can't flip over. That way if you want to still swaddle (or even not), she is not getting herself into positions that she cannot get out of.

  4. Sawyer was the same way! At this stage, if she's ok with it, I would switch to a sleep sack. Start her out by using it during the day, and then switch to it at night. She'll probably start flipping more and more the better she gets at it. We would flip him over when we heard him fussing, but he eventually got used to it and would go back to sleep without a fight. If you know someone that you can borrow an angel care monitor from, that might give you some peace of mind!
